1.1 Investigate

[ip]

Infographic poster
I have designed an infographic poster dedicated to the book “Hotel Carpets”. This helped me investigate all the shapes that the carpets use on their designs. Also, I have recorder how many carpets use an exact shape.

gif video
The following gif video consists of all the carpet images included in the book (104 images, same order as shown in the book). Each image duration is 0.1 s. This fast switching between the images gives a sense of movement to the carpets and more specifically to the patterns and the shapes of the carpets. That’s why I have converted the video to black and white. This gave me a clearer view of the carpets’ patterns, helping me investigate the forms more easily.

Vector carpet patterns
I have created some simple illustrations using some carpets’ patterns I have recorded from the book. I have only used the black colour, which helped me understand the shapes and forms of the carpet designs.

Each carpet, has its own special pattern, thus its own special story. Apart from the colours, something else that highly contributes to this, are the design elements such as lines and shapes. These will give a unique identity to the carpet which in turn will provoke the corresponding emotions to the viewer.
